Day 1: The caterpillars came to our classroom today and they are so tiny.

Day 4: The caterpillars have been busy eating and they are getting bigger.

Day 7: The caterpillars have grown ! Look how big they are!

Day 11: They are attaching themselves to the lid and forming their "J" shape.

Soon... They will molt for the final time and form their chrysalis.

Day 14: All the caterpillars have formed chrysalides. What is happening in the chrysalis?

The caterpillar parts are liquefying and rearranging to become the cells, tissues, and organs of the butterfly.

We should have butterflies emerging in about 10 days.

Day 20: The butterflies are starting to emerge. They are beautiful Painted Lady butterflies!

Day 27: We have enjoyed watching all of the butterflies emerge.

We released our 10 butterflies today.
